Daughters 2024 Vegamovies: Release Date, Box Office Collection and Review

The world's prisons hide all kinds of stories. There are, of course, those of those who damaged their lives (and the lives of others) due to crimes. But there are also those of those who, deep down, regret their actions. In addition, there are some who only want to be as close as possible to their families, since distance is even more painful for them than their sentence itself. Below, we present the trailer and everything you need to know about Daughters , the shocking documentary that, after years of making, gave its protagonists a reason to smile.

What is it about?

Daughters is the result of an eight-year documentary journey embarked on by filmmaker Natalie Rae and Angela Patton, an activist who advocates for “promising” girls. As Aubrey, Santana, Raziah and Ja’Ana prepare for a special event, they speak candidly about their hopes, dreams and disappointments. There is an innate wisdom and honesty in what they share about their fathers’ inconsistent presence. An awareness that goes far beyond their years.

This documentary significantly challenges many stereotypes surrounding incarceration, and serves as a poignant reminder that maintaining family ties can be both healing and empowering. We witness many joys, but Rae and Patton don’t shy away from the more difficult moments, such as heartbreak, skepticism, reluctance to commit, and anger.

A hard work of production

Although the project took eight years to complete, the idea for it actually began in 2012. That year, Angela Patton gave a TED Talk called A Father-Daughter in Prison . Rae heard about the talk and was absolutely moved by what was said there.

From there began a strong research work in which both girls looked for girls with a common denominator: having their father in prison, and being prepared for an activity in which they are allowed to meet with them in prison and share moments, and even dance together. The result? A work praised worldwide, and with what it takes to move the entire world.

What can we expect from Daughters ?

By presenting a premise as universal as family ties and the love between a father and daughter (or sons), the filmmakers do not want to reach a specific audience. Their intention is to present a plot that is absolutely empathetic for everyone, and also to generate some kind of change in the judicial system. The latter aims to generate more unity in families and motivate the development of individuals.

Daughters also comes across as a completely contemporary story given the large number of human rights movements taking place in our times. Millions of people see prison as a punishment, but its effects on both the inmates and those who suffer from the absence of their families are rarely discussed in film.
