What is Harold and the Purple Crayon about ?
Inspired by Crockett Johnson 's original children's book , Harold's Magic Crayon tells the story of Harold, a boy (or, in this version, a man) who is at the height of his potential. With an empty world and a purple crayon in hand, Harold sets out to create his own world and bring to life everything he's ever dreamed of.
As his eponymous literary reference tells it, “one day Harold wants to go for a walk in the moonlight, but there is no moon, so he draws one. He has nowhere to go for a walk, so he draws a path. He has many adventures in search of his bedroom, and in the end he draws his own house and bed, and goes to sleep.”
This film is a contemporary take on this idea, and the big-screen story will tell the great adventures of a young Harold who embarks on a mission and, with the help of his magic crayon, unleashes a purple wave of bizarre experiences throughout his city.
Behind the production
Harold and the Purple Crayon, which has been in the works for 30 years, was directed by Carlos Saldahana ( Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs ) and written by David Guion and Michael Handelman .
The film stars Zachary Levi as the great Harold, and will also feature the participation of actors such as Lil Rel Howery , Zooey Deschanel , Ravi Patel and Jemaine Clement .
It should also be noted that Will Smith was also involved in the making of this film. In 2010, his incorporation as a producer with Columbia Pictures was announced . However, for unknown reasons, the actor did not manage to be part of the final version of the project. Currently, Harold and the Purple Crayon is produced by John Davis , through Davis Entertainment.
