It Ends with Us 2024 Vegamovies: Release Date, Box Office Collection and Review

After planting her flag on the high hills of BookTok, bestselling author Colleen Hoover is taking her empire to Hollywood — and bringing Blake Lively with her. Her breakout hit It Ends With Us has more than just a movie deal; stars Lively, set to play leading lady Lily in the "romance," even if that gender label is a misnomer. (We'll get to that in a moment.) In the meantime, here's everything we know about the film so far.

Who's in the cast of It Ends With Us?

Lively, of Gossip Girl fame, will play Lily, the film's protagonist and the central figure in Hoover's chart-topping book. Isabella Ferrer will play the younger Lily.

Other cast members include Jane the Virgin alumnus Justin Baldoni as Ryle, a neurosurgeon and Lily's love interest; Spanish 1923 breakout star Brandon Schneller as Atlas Corrigan, Lily's high school girlfriend; Alex Newstedder as a young Atlas; Jenny Slate as Elisa, Ryle's sister; and Hasan Minhaj as Marshall, Elisa's husband and Ryle's best friend.

Baldoni serves as the film's director as well as executive producing alongside Lively and Hoover.

What's the movie about?

Based on Hoover's book, which helped the author beat the actual Bible in 2022, the film will follow a Boston flower shop owner who's just out of college. By the time we meet her, Lily is struggling to get over the death of her abusive father. But then she meets Ryle, a handsome doctor with whom she forms an instant bond. Though he has no interest in any sort of real commitment, he eventually accepts a relationship between the two. At first, their love story is exciting, but it's not long before his ego takes the path of violence. As the film's synopsis describes, "Lily begins to see aspects of Ryle that remind her of her parents' relationship and the traumatic childhood she had to overcome."

Thus, it's hard to classify the story as a "romance," even if millions of fans, aka cohorts, find it intense. A tale steeped in the thorny dynamics of love and abuse, It Ends With Us has earned its fair share of criticism for, intentionally or not, glorifying domestic abuse, or at least presenting it irresponsibly. (For example, a coloring book version of It Ends With Us was pulled after critical backlash.)

However, as Lively told People in April 2024, "The success of the book has made it clear that Lily has resonated with a huge number of people. It's an honor to play a character that has had such a significant impact. I love Lily, and I hope that love is felt by the people who care about her like I do, and also by the people who are meeting her for the first time in this movie."

When will It Ends With Us release?

As Deadline reports, in early July 2023, Sony Pictures announced that the film would be released on February 9, 2024. In January 2024, it was pushed back to June 21, and then in April, it was moved once again to a (hopefully) final release date of August 9.

Can I get an advance?

Sony Pictures released the official trailer for It Ends With Us in May 2024, finally giving fans a two-and-a-half-minute preview of what's to come. Naturally, Taylor Swift's "My Tears Ricochet" plays in the background of the clip.
