Horror movies are one of Indonesia's favorite genres. The latest movie schedule in Indonesian cinemas includes a unique film as it is the first Indonesian film with an exorcism theme. The title is Kuasa Gelap.
Kuasa Gelap is the first Indonesian film to tell the story of two Catholic priests who perform an exorcism to drive the devil out of a teenage girl.
Produced by Robert Ronnie and directed by Bobby Prasetyo, the film stars Jerome Kurnia as the priest and will be released in theaters on October 3, 2024.
Perhaps because it is the first Indonesian film with an exorcism theme, the preparations were done very carefully. Actor Jerome Kurnia even researched and learned Latin to play a priest in his new film "Kuasa Gelap."
"In this film, I play Father Thomas. For this film, we have received direct assistance from the source; there are also many workshops," Jerome told Antara.
One person who stole the show was young actress Lee Ciarachel, who played a teenager named Kayla.
Kayla said this was her first movie. She auditioned when she was 15 and now she is 18.
For her role, Lee had to act in trance, which she admitted was difficult because she had never experienced it. In terms of background, she feels quite similar to Kayla, who is still unstable and immature.
Kuasa Gelap Movie Summary
The story is starred by famous actors such as Jerome Kurnia and Lukman Sardi. It focuses on Romo Thomas (Jerome), a priest who has suffered a trauma in the past.
His mother and sister died together in a tragic accident. This incident caused Father Thomas to doubt his faith in God. He even questioned the purpose of his ministry.
Thomas, who wanted to resign as a priest after losing his mother and sister in a tragic accident, was given the final task of helping Father Rendra (Lukman) perform an exorcism.
Together with Father Rendra, Thomas must perform an exorcism on his late sister's best friend Kayla (Lee). Kayla was possessed by the demon while she was playing jelangkung to summon her father's spirit.
The presence of the demon in Kayla's body puts not only her life but also her mother's life in danger. The incident also brings to light Kayla's mother's dark past.
