This time under the direction of Barry Jenkins, Mufasa: The Lion King will be released in theaters on December 20, 2024.

Next month, Mufasa: The Lion King, the prequel film to Disney's hit live-action film released by Jon Favreau in 2019, hits theaters.

For this new installment, the direction will be in the hands of Barry Jenkins, the filmmaker behind productions such as The Underground Railroad, Moonlight, and Beale Street Blues. The script will once again be written by Jeff Nathanson ( The Girl and the Sea, Tower Heist , Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge ).

With its premiere getting closer, the length of the new CGI animated film that will tell the story of Mufasa, Simba's father, has been revealed.

As reported by The Hollywood Handle, Mufasa: The Lion King will have a duration of 1 hour and 58 minutes, the same footage as Jon Favreau's film.

What to expect in Mufasa: The Lion King 2024 Movie

The film's plot will be a prequel to the 2019 rekame and will tell the origin story of Mufasa, Simba's father, and how he rose to become king, as well as showing how the relationship with his brother Scar became so tense and complicated.

Mufasa and Scar will not be the only ones to appear in the film, as the return of other secondary characters from The Lion King has also been confirmed, such as Rafiki, Zazu, and even Timon and Pumba.

The film will also feature all-new songs for the Disney franchise, as well as introduce a new cast of actors to lend their voices to the main characters.

Thus, Aaron Pierre ( Blade, Time, The Underground Railroad ) will voice Mufasa, while Kelvin Harrison Jr. ( The Trial of the Chicago 7, Cyrano, Elvis ) will play the villain Scar.
